The Nurtury is a Jewish Reggio-Inspired nursery and preschool. It is a place where children are happy and relaxed, where there is freedom to play, to be, to learn and to grow. We are a discovery-based program where children's play is considered a vital means of cognitive and social learning and the primary means for growth and development.

Our Story

The Nurtury took root in founder Sara Raskind's home. Realizing there was no childcare services designed for infants anywhere in the Jewish community, Sara began a small in-home playgroup known to many as "the Hollywood Playgroup". What began as a small group of little rascals crawling about Sara's living room floor, the playgroup quickly grew into a thriving community of hardworking  families who wanted a safe, nurturing and structured atmosphere for their precious little ones.

After experiencing the cookie-cutter ways of mainstream early childhood education with her own children, and consulting with dozens of local parents who too were frustrated with the available school options, Sara knew the community needed a NEW and DIFFERENT approach. Sara launched the Nurtury in response to this need.

“Our task, regarding creativity, is to help children climb their own mountains, as high as possible. No one can do more.”

Loris Malaguzzi, founder of Reggio Emilia's educational philosophy

What We're About

The Nurtury is about celebrating the whole child. Parents, teachers, and students are partners in learning by openly sharing and exchanging ideas. Through experimentation and active discovery our classrooms transform throughout the year -- our projects revolve around student's interests, and our relationship with one another strengthens as we grow.
